Lillian B. Mortimer

TILGHMAN: Lillian B. Mortimer "Miss Lill" of Tilghman died on Tuesday, September 21, 1999. She was 101. Born in Tilghman, June 30, 1898, she was the daughter and eldest child of the late John Franklin and Henreitta North Berridge. She attended public school at Bar Neck, Tilghman. On February 15, 1917 she married Lester George Harrison. They made their home in Bar Neck. He died November 18, 1924. They had one daughter, Pauline "Polly" Harrison Covington, she died May 4, 1977. After her husband''s death she worked for Harry and Grace Howeth''s store and also lived with them until 1929. On January 19, 1929 she married Randolph Burns Mortimer of Neavitt. They made their home in Tilghman. He died April 21, 1967. She worked for Johnny Hot''s store on Avalon for quite a few years and then became a full time homemaker. She was a life member of St. John''s Methodist Church, Tilghman, United Methodist Women, AARP and Senior Citizens of Tilghman. She was also a member of the Tilghman United Methodist Church. Her life was filled with her family, friends and many hobbies which included bird watching, needlework, riding her bicycle until age 95 and she was an avid gardner. She loved a vegetable garden and always had a yard full of flowers until age 97. Mrs. Mortimer is survived by a daughter, Edwina M. Murphy and son-in-law, Daniel H. Murphy of Tilghman; one sister, Helen B. Harrison of Easton; a very dear cousin, Lula Mae Weller of Easton and four grandchildren, Danna M. Murden of St. Michaels, Randolph S. Murphy of Tilghman, Richard J. Baynard of Trappe and Shirley M. Morris of Denton; four great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews. Two brothers, S. Ellis Berridge and John F. Berridge and three sisters, Margaret B. Frampton, Nora B. Harrison and Ella B. Johnson are deceased. Funeral services will be held at St. Johns Methodist Church, Tilghman on Saturday, September 25, 1999 at 11:00 AM where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Johns Cemetery, Tilghman. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ST. Johns Church, P.O. Box 142, Tilghman, MD 21671. Funeral arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, MD.
