Leonard William Carter Sr.

Leonard William Carter, 74, of McDaniel, MD died on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at UMSMC at Easton, MD. He was born to Stephen and Florence Carter on November 16, 1951, in Albany, New York. Later, they moved to Massachusetts where he completed his education. In 1976, he entered the United States Army, which took him to El Paso, Texas, Anchorage, Alaska, and Hawaii. On September 1, 1990, he married the former Maryetta Copper, and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage. Maryetta and Lenoard traveled a lot, enjoying the beauty of creation, and fishing; but one of the greatest joys was telling people about Jehovah God. Leonard had searched to find true worship for 9 years in many states; but when he came to Maryland, he found it by searching the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was baptized on July 24, 1989. He served as a ministerial servant and regular Pioneer in the Easton, MD congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Even while in the hospital, Leonard told many about how the Bible could help answer important questions and give us hope for the future. Leonard is survived by his wife, Maryetta, and two daughters, Traci Austin [Rudell] of Dorchester, Mass and LaToya Gayle [Omar] of Long Island, NY; along with two brothers, Stephen Carter of Roxbury, Mass, and George Carter of California and India. Leonard is also survived by his mother-in-law, Pauline Copper, nine grandchildren, Shavon, Patrick, Ian, Tatiana, Aaron, Trevor, Brianna, Matthew, Christian, and many cousins, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, Leonard is preceded in death by his son, Leonard W. Carter, Jr and brothers, Grant Carter and Tony Carter. Leonard was a very caring person known for being kind, compassionate and for being so comical. Leonard especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Even when he was sick, he still managed to crack jokes. Leonard is and will be sorely missed. The family would like to offer a special thank you to all for your unending love and support during Leonard’s illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Easton Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses, 29250 Skipton Landing Rd, Cordova, MD 21625. Leonard’s memorial service will be held on January 17, 2026, at 3pm. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 29250 Skipton Landing Road, Cordova, MD 21625.
