Lenore "Lee" Sanders

The family of Lenore "Lee" Sanders is sad to share that she passed away on October 15, 2022, one month shy of her 98th birthday. At her side, were her husband of 74 years, Calvin, and her daughters, Deb and Miriam. Lee passed peacefully at her home in Easton, MD. She was formerly a resident of Montgomery County in MD. Lee grew up in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY. She attended elementary and high school in Richmond Hill, and then went to Pratt Institute and Cornell University, where she earned her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Home Economics. At Cornell, she met Cal and chose not to follow her intended plans of a career in food and nutrition. Her marriage to Cal in 1947 relocated her to the Washington, DC, area where she instead chose a full career raising two daughters. They have given her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who live in CA, AZ, and VA. Later in their marriage, while on a romantic anniversary weekend getaway in Oxford, MD, Lee and Cal discovered and immediately fell in love with Maryland's Eastern Shore. They first purchased their weekend getaway in Sherwood, MD, and later retired full-time to St. Michaels, MD. Lee served as an expert first mate to Cal on several family motorboats and immediately became a skilled crabber. She was warned by Cal that if she missed a crab on the trotline, she should be prepared to dive in to capture the escapee. She never missed one. To the delight of her family and friends, Lee became a master at hosting pre-dinner happy hours. This tradition continues in their family to this day. Lee and Cal traveled extensively with their family. Lee especially loved cruising and the family enjoyed many hours at sea, both domestically and abroad. Lee delighted in joining discussions to select the family's next travel adventure and was happiest when there was a next adventure on the calendar. Lee and Cal continued their Eastern Shore residency by moving to Londonderry on Tred Avon in 2009. At Londonderry, Lee enjoyed happy years surrounded by cherished friendships and actively participated in both the dining and the activities committees. Londonderry has been a very happy home for Lee and Cal. The family offers special thanks to Lee's care team, especially Cheryl, Dionne, and Brittany who became family to her and supported her family. Lee will be celebrated and missed by the family and friends she leaves behind, who draw comfort from the ease of her passing and knowing Lee's was a life well-lived.
