Lena Virginia "Ginny" Simns

L. Virginia “Ginny” Simns, of Rock Hall, MD, died at her home on Friday August 19, 2016. She was 75 years old. Mrs. Simns was born in her home in Rock Hall, MD, the daughter of the late Wesley William and Frances Merle Elburn Coleman. Mrs. Simns was a 1958 graduate of Rock Hall High School. She waited tables at the Driftwood Restaurant and for 47 years she was a school bus contractor for the Kent County Public Schools system. After retiring, she resumed driving for Rick Elliott until her health forced her to stop. She also enjoyed driving the bus for the Kent County Parks and Recreation. Mrs. Ginny enjoy many things in life, crocheting, quilting, sewing, crafting, and cross stitching. She enjoyed watching the hummingbirds that frequented her property. She also enjoyed reading and traveling, as well as line dancing and square dancing. Outdoors, she enjoyed gardening and walking and biking, to name a few. The most important time spent in her life was with her family and her many dear friends. Mrs. Simns is survived by, one daughter, L. Susan Barnhardt and her husband Todd of Chestertown, MD; two sons, Richard V. Carter, Jr., of Webster, TX and Robert A. Simns of Rock Hall, MD; a step-daughter Dawn Nordhoff and her husband Ricky of Rock Hall; a stepson, Larry Simns Jr., all from Rock Hall, MD; two sisters, Peggy J. Hepbron and husband Richard of Townsend, DE; and Edna Mae Morris and husband Charles of Chestertown, MD; and a brother Wesley Coleman and his wife Clara of Joelton, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandi Scott and husband Jason, Jennifer Wiltbank and husband Jonathan, Ashley Deutsch and husband Zak, Richard Carter, Jason Simns, David Nordhoff, Brant Nordhoff, Jessica Kerl and husband Josh, great grandchildren, Savannah Scott, Barron Scott, Maddox Scott, Wyatt Wiltbank, Greysen Carter and Landon Nordhoff and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by three brothers, William M. ‘Sonny” Coleman, Albert A. Coleman and Russell Coleman, a sister-in-law, Debbie K. Coleman, nephew Matthew Coleman, and niece Kristina Morris. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 4:30 p..m at Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD, where friends and family are invited to visit after 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the Compass Regional Hospice, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
