Lahoma Ruth Burton

Lahoma Ruth Burton passed away on February 7, 2025 at home in hospice care at the age of 84. Ruth was born on a stormy Monday night in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, the only child of Luther W. “Buck” Conn and Thelma Ann Hunter. Ruth was lovingly raised on the family farm by her grandparents, Ally and Ruth Hunter, in the same 4 room house as her mother, 6 aunts and 3 uncles. She moved to Queenstown, Maryland in 1954 with her mother and stepfather, Jennings Warner and was a proud 1958 graduate of Centreville High School. Following a memorable first encounter with Charles Edward “Eddie” Burton at, and many return trips to Holly's restaurant in Grasonville, Ruth and Eddie fell in love and were joyously married on June 20, 1959. Ruth and Eddie moved to Centreville to raise their family, where she was a Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher and dedicated member of the Goodwill Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She worked at Black and Decker in Easton for 27 years retiring as a line specialist supervisor in 2003. Ruth then worked at Sugar Magnolia Cafe in Centreville, finally retiring in 2007. Her greatest joy in life was to be surrounded by her family. She could be found at all of her grand and great grandchildren's events and activities, happily informing any official or judge of any mistakes made! Ruth also enjoyed the annual Centreville High School Alumni Association gatherings, attending all of them since graduation. She was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, stepfather, 5 aunts, 3 uncles, husband and son Jeffrey. Ruth is survived by her children: Jay, Lahoma Walbert (Forrest) and Craig (Stephanie); 7 grandchildren: Danny Hill (Christine), Brian Powell (Gwen), Michael Powell (Jessica), Jamie Burton (Elizabeth), Sam Burton (Amanda), Matthew Burton and Sophia Burton; 5 great-grandchildren: Angel, Andrew, Kylie, Mya and Skylar; 1 aunt, Genevieve, who just turned 104 and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with Ruth's wishes, there will be no services and interment will be private.
