Kevin Josef Yusavitz

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Josef Yusavitz, a sweet soul who left this world far too soon on December 22, 2025, at the tender age of 15. Born on September 25, 2010, in Annapolis, Maryland, Kevin was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him, and his boundless spirit and love are so painfully missed. Kevin was the beloved son of Karl and Hetty Yusavitz and a cherished grandson to Brittain Dee and Vicky Humphrey. He is survived by his loving family, aunt Bronwyn Leonard, uncle Brittain Humphrey, uncle Kurt Yusavitz, aunt Liza (and Kelly) McGrew, cousins Brittyn Lyra Leonard, Rife Leonard, Skylar Glick, Camryn Glick, and his loyal dog ZuZu. Kevin was preceded in death by his grandmother (and namesake) Kevin Humphrey, grandparents Joseph and Audrey Yusavitz, and his uncle Dennis Leonard, who all now watch over him from above. Kevin was a freshman at Kent Island High School and a vibrant part of the school community. Kevin approached life with a big heart and enthusiasm in his many friend groups, and loved the team sports, especially rec. lacrosse and football, in which he participated. It came easy to Kevin to connect with people, and he always had a cheerful first word, “Hi! How is your day going?” The Chester River Beach neighborhood welcomed Kevin’s smiling and upbeat wave as he regularly zoomed down the road on his bike confidently riding the longest wheelies you’ve seen. On other days, Kevin was spotted on his four-wheeler towing his pride-filled Jon boat to the launch, or hauling his lawn mower to the lawns he regularly cut. As an eastern shore boy, one of Kevin’s favorite pastimes was cruising the Chester River in his beloved Jon boat, fishing and hanging out with his friends on the water listening to music. And on hot days he could be found swimming in the bay, just loving being outdoors. He loved animals and nature, and especially loved everyone else’s pets. Kevin would sometimes show up unannounced at friends’ homes just to play with their dogs. He offered friendship without judgement, and his genuine care for others was evident in the way he engaged with friends and neighbors, always ready to lend a helping hand. Kevin took pride in working at a young age and was well regarded for mowing many lawns, doing yardwork and shoveling snow, particularly for those who really needed his help. Another passion for Kevin lay in his love for mechanics. He had an innate talent and love for working on and fixing motors and equipment of all kinds, often resulting in them turning out better than they had been before. Camp Wright in Stevensville, MD, was also a special place for Kevin, where he spent most of his summers exploring and learning about Chesapeake Bay life and developing his love of the outdoors. Kevin's connection with nature was a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the world around him, and no doubt he was looking forward to attending camp again this summer. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all those who organized the candle light vigil at the Chester River Beach neighborhood boat launch in the wake of Kevin's passing. In honor of Kevin's beautiful life and the many friendships he forged, countless friends (donned their best camo), classmates, teammates, teachers, coaches, neighbors and community officers joined Kevin's family to pay tribute to Kevin by honoring the joy he brought into their lives. The love and support shown by so many at the vigil as well as the past, incredibly difficult weeks has been overwhelming, but particularly it is a testament to the kind of person Kevin was - he touched the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. Kevin will forever be cherished by all of his close friends, especially his best friends, Caleb Rose and Franklin Webb, all whose hearts are heavy missing him, but will carry the fun times, laughter and adventures they shared with Kevin forever. Though Kevin departed far too soon, we will always remember his boundless spirit, his shining examples of friendship, and the love he shared with us so freely. Kevin's memory will forever live on in our hearts, reminding us to embrace life and the world with kindness, enthusiasm, and an open heart. Rest in peace, sweet Kevin, and may your soul fly high above the Eastern Shore.
