Kenneth Bartley Boudrie

Kenneth Bartley Boudrie died on December 9, 2004 at his home in Easton after a prolonged illness. He was 63. Born July 20, 1941 in Monroe, Michigan, he was the eldest son of Kenneth Benjamin Boudrie of Sun City, AZ and the late Wanda Ferguson Boudrie. He grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he graduated from the University of Michigan with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Business Administration. Mr. Boudrie worked in marketing research for the General Electric Company and Ford Motor Corporation. He later became the youngest Vice President and General Manager of Industrial Capital Corporation of Rhode Island, specializing in small business investments. He lectured in economics at the University of Rhode Island and wrote several magazine articles on scientific management techniques in banking. Mr. Boudrie was appointed Vice President of Venture Capital at Continental Illinois Bank in Chicago in 1970 and managed a voluntary businessman’s association in Lake Forest, Illinois. Mr. Boudrie founded a mail order business, The Bartley Collection, Ltd., in Lake Forest, Illinois in 1974. The company manufactured authentic kit reproductions of 18th century Queen Anne and Chippendale furniture that were sold through a private catalogue. Forbes magazine published an article about Mr. Boudrie in 1986, applauding him as “a textbook case of how to build a terrific little business”. An avid sailor and water enthusiast, Mr. Boudrie was drawn to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1980 where he built, owned and operated a manufacturing facility for the Bartley Collection in Easton until 1987. Other ventures in Easton included Scrapbooks, a memory book publication store, and an affiliation with C.R.A.B., an Annapolis based organization working to encourage physically challenged persons to enjoy boating. Married 34 years to Christine DeRosier Boudrie, in addition to his father, Mr. Boudrie is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Trumbull and her husband, Theodore and Melissa Peterson and her husband, David, all of Easton, and Amanda Boudrie of Arlington, VA; two brothers, Keith Jory Boudrie of Independence, MN and Brian Scott Boudrie of Falls Church, VA; and five grandchildren, Bartley Anne and Kelsey Christine Trumbull, and Katherine Nanette, Eric Christopher and Benjamin James Peterson. A celebration of Mr. Boudrie’s life will be held on January 1, 2005 from 4 to 6 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., 200 S. Harrison St., Easton, MD. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the National Rehabilitation Hospital, 102 Irving St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20010.
