Katherine Rozene Collier

Katherine “Rozene” Collier of Queenstown, MD, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 7, 2015. She was 85 years old. Born on April 12, 1930, in Easton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Elsie Loretta Porter and Charles Lane. She was a graduate of Stevensville High School. On June 1, 1956, she married Larry “Bucky” Gene Collier in Chestertown, MD. She was employed as the bookkeeper at Fisherman's Inn for over 40 years and was still working 3-4 days a week up until the day of her passing. Before that she worked at the original Inn owned by the Thomas family. In her free time, she enjoyed watching the birds in her garden, even if she had to sit on the porch in her surgical mask because of all the pollen. Her favorites were hummingbirds, and she couldn't wait until she saw her first one every year (and would call up her friends to let them know). It was always a competition on who would get the first one to arrive every year. This past March, a red-headed woodpecker showed up, and she raved over how beautiful it was. She made sure to have the suet out there and fresh water for him to drop in. The evening of her death she was beyond ecstatic and sent out the text that stated “Oh My God! A baby red headed wood pecker on the suet. BEAUTIFUL!!!” Legend states that when a red headed woodpecker comes knocking there will be a serendipitous meeting with someone in your life. Looks like Bucky sent his message loud and clear Wednesday evening, and they are once again reunited. Along with bird watching, she enjoyed growing her Christmas Cactuses, spending her winter months at her home in Port Orange, FL, going antiquing with her friends, Betty, Darlene, & Sandy, and spending as much time as possible with her loving family. The family in return loved her heart of gold more than can ever be imagined, as well as the added bonus of the delicious cucumbers & vinegar, homemade ice cream, blackberry mush, rice pudding, and the infamous white potato pies that she made. Rozene is survived by her son, Larry Gene Collier, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Church Hill, MD; three grandchildren, Jason Collier (Heather) of Queenstown, MD, Jennifer Walters (Jason) of Queenstown, MD, and Katherine Collier of Queenstown, MD; three great-granddaughters, Caley Walters, Skylar Walters and Shelby Collier; three great-grandsons, Nicholas Walters, Gabriel Collier, and Memphis Collier; two step-grandsons, Jonathan Mench (Shauna) of Queenstown, MD, and Jordon Mench of Church Hill, MD; two step-great-granddaughters, Aubrey Mench and Hayden Mench; one step-great-grandson, Hayden Duke Mench; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Jimmy Lane, and one sister, Betty Lane Kite. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 408 South Liberty Street, Centreville, MD. Interment will be held at the MD Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD, on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at 11 a.m. In remembrance of Rozene, please donate to the charity of your choice.
