Judith S. Scully

Judith “Judy” Scully, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, after a brief illness, under the constant and loving care of her devoted daughter Julie. Born on July 20, 1940, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, Judy built a life defined by devotion, strength, faith, and deep love for her family. She spent most of her years in Berwyn Heights, Maryland, where she and her beloved husband, Jack Scully (John), whom she married on May 20, 1961, raised their three children: John Scully, Jr., Juliana Scully, and Jason Scully. Judy was steadfast in her commitment to her husband through all of life’s seasons — the joyful times and the difficult ones alike. She cared for Jack faithfully until his passing in December 2011, a reflection of the loyalty and devotion that defined her character. Those who knew her well understood that she never truly got over the loss of her beloved Jack. Their bond was deep and enduring. For many years, Judy worked as a secretary for the federal government, first at the Federal Reserve, and later for the Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in White Oak, Maryland, bringing quiet diligence and dedication to her work while balancing career and family life. Twenty-one years ago, she made her home in Centreville, Maryland, where she embraced retirement with warmth and enthusiasm. On the Eastern Shore, she formed cherished friendships and filled her days with companionship and community. She especially looked forward to spirited card games with friends at Symphony Village and treasured her outings to Hardee’s with the “Hardee Girls” after Mass at her parish, Our Mother of Sorrows in Centreville. Judy had a wonderful sense of fun in the everyday. She was a devoted and enthusiastic shopper — particularly fond of outings to Marshalls and HomeGoods — where she delighted in finding treasures, often returning them just as happily. For her, it was never just about the purchase; it was about the adventure and the joy of the outing. Her grandchildren — Matthew, Mia, and Michael — were among her greatest joys. She absolutely loved them and took immense pride in watching them grow. She is also survived by a long list of cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Judy deeply cherished her beloved sister, Bettina, and her older brother, Andrew. Family meant everything to her, and she nurtured those bonds throughout her life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on March 16 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church in Centreville, Maryland. While her family grieves her loss, they find comfort in the belief that Judy is reunited at last with her beloved Jack — that he was there to welcome her when she left this earth, and that they are together again. Judy’s life was one of quiet strengths, enduring love, unwavering faith, and steadfast devotion to those she loved. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
