Joyce A. Muck

Joyce A. Muck of Rock Hall, MD, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at University of Maryland Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown, MD. She was 91. Born on October 8, 1926 in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the later Albert E. and Lydia White Krieger. Her earlier years were spent in multiple foster homes. She went to live in New York at age 14 with her mother. During WWII, she worked for the NY Telephone Company and was there when President Roosevelt died in 1945. She was working at Vita Foods in NY as a switchboard receptionist, when she met her husband, a Vita Food Truck Driver, George Muck. After they married on August 10, 1954, Mrs. Muck was transferred to Vita Food in Chestertown, MD, where she and George started their family. Mrs. Muck drove a school bus for the Seventh Day Adventist School in Sudlersville, MD, and also worked as an LPN for Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospice in Chestertown for 15 years, from 1978 – 1993. Mrs. Muck loved Rock Hall and her family, especially the time spent with her grandchildren when they were younger. She really enjoyed reading, writing, taking pictures, baking fresh apple cakes, and driving her car. She was a member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post #36, Ladies Auxiliary in Chestertown and the Rock Hall Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rock Hall, Tops Club, AARP Club, and the writing group at the Amy Lynn Ferris Center. Mrs. Muck went to Acme also every day to check her memory by remembering the helpful coworkers and kept her arthritis moving with the shopping cart. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca L. Sheppard of Still Pond, MD, and Tammy L. Ament of Dover, DE; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by two infants; her brother, William Krieger; and her husband of 56 years, George Muck. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Rock Hall Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rock Hall, where relatives and friends may call one hour prior (12-1 p.m.), a reception at the church will follow. Interment will be held privately in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock Hall Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD 21661.
