Josephine Arnouts

Josephine Maria Arnouts, 92, of Easton and a former resident of Dutchess County, New York died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at William Hill Manor. Born September 14, 1915, in Antwerp, Belgium, she was the daughter of Aloysius Maria van Heesch and Julia Carolus Lowet. She married Franciscus Arnouts on August 7, 1937 in Antwerp, Belgium. Mr. & Mrs. Arnouts and son, Robert, immigrated to the United States in 1949 and her son Jack was born in the United States. Mrs. Arnouts relocated to Easton in 2003 with her son and daughter-in-law. In August 2005 she became a resident of William Hill Gardens and in March 2006 she entered William Hill Manor Health Care Center. A homemaker, “Josie” as she preferred to be called, was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed many different forms of hand work such as knitting and crocheting. Late in life Mrs. Arnouts began to paint and enjoyed this creative outlet during her retirement years. She had a “special hand” for plants and flowers and always filled her home with them. She was a loving mother and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. At William Hill she especially enjoyed the bingo sessions, where she sat at the right hand of the caller so she could hear the letters and numbers as they were called. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Arnouts, her sister, Julia Gregory and brothers Harry van Heesch and Alois van Heesch. Survivors include her brother Ben van Heesch in Antwerp, Belgium; 2 sons and their wives; Robert A. and Ruth Arnouts of Easton, MD; Jack and Debi Arnouts of Salt Point, New York; 5 grandchildren, Christiane deJong and husband Mark, Falls Church, VA, Suzanne Quinn and husband Michael, Berkeley Heights, NJ, Julia Wardell and husband Michael, Hyde Park, NY, Lauren Arnouts of Old Chatham, NY & Jonathan Arnouts of Albany, NY; and 4 great-grandchildren , Katie and Maddy Quinn from Berkeley Heights, NJ , Anneke deJong, Falls Church, VA and Skylar Wardell, Hyde Park, NY. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family plot in Clove Cemetery, Clove Valley, NY. Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton, MD.
