Joseph Bryan Saddler, Jr.

Joseph B. Saddler, Jr., of Queenstown, died on May 20, 2016, at the Heartland House in Grasonville, MD surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old. Mr. Saddler, Joey to his family and friends, was a 1954 graduate of Stevensville High School where he participated in soccer, baseball, and basketball. As a young adult, he demonstrated care and concern for his community as a founding member of the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department in 1958. After working as a plumber's apprentice and working for a local home builder, he started his own home building company, Joseph B. Saddler, Jr. Contractor, Inc. He established a reputation for building high quality custom homes through his attention to detail and his demand for perfection. He was both builder and craftsman, known for his unparalleled honesty and integrity. The Episcopal Church played an important role in Joey’s life as he served as a Vestryman, among other duties, for Christ Church in Stevensville, MD. Most notably, Joey embodied the sentiment that family is everything. He shared his successes with immediate and extended family. He gave of himself freely and with an open heart. Joey spent time with his family both at home and seeing the world as a traveler. He was an avid collector with a keen eye. He was known for his sense of humor and his contagious smile. Joey taught all whom he encountered the value of joy and hard work. Joey was the son of Joseph B. Saddler, Sr. and Lila Virginia Saddler. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Patricia Groff Saddler; two sons: Greg Saddler and his wife, Laura, and JB Saddler and his fiancé, Tina Bargiband; one granddaughter, Stacy Blodgett, her husband Billy and two great grandsons, Brooks and Boden Blodgett. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald C. Saddler of Florida and a sister, Trina S. Neighbors of Grasonville. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Gray of Queenstown; a special niece, Traci McGovern, her husband Emmet, and son Kai. A visitation will be held on Tuesday May 24, 2016 at the Fellow, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD from 6PM to 8Pm. The funeral service will be held 11AM on Wednesday May 25, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church in Stevensville, MD interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton, MD. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box 457 Grasonville, MD 21617.
