John Trax Fluharty

John Trax Fluharty, of Easton, died at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Friday, June 15, 2001. He was 88. Born in Talbot County, Sept. 4, 1912, he was the son of the late George Wm., Sr. and Florence Trax Fluharty. After graduating from Easton High School, he worked at the Nehi Bottling Company in Easton from 1936 to 1943. He served in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations during World War 11. Following his release from active duty, he returned to Easton where he owned and operated a grocery store from 1947 until 1980. He then worked as a part-time painting contractor until retiring for health reasons in the late 1990''s. A lifelong resident of Talbot County, he was charter member of St. Mark''s United Methodist Church in Easton where he had served on the Administrative Board, was the Evangelistic Chairman, President of the Men''s Bible Class and worked with the Sunday School Dept. He also volunteered many hours in the maintenance and painting of the church and the Easton Day Care Center. He was also well-known for his visitation with the sick and for sending get-well cards and other special occasion cards. His wife, the former Dorothy Cannon whom he married in June of 1936, died on May 6, 1993. Mr. Fluharty is survived by two daughters, Emily V. Towle and her husband, Peter, of Hayward, CA and Janice F. Nagel and her husband, Harry, of Federalsburg; a sister, Eurith F. Harper, of St. Michaels; three brothers, Holton T. Fluharty of Easton, Ralph B. Fluharty of Mifflenburg, PA and George W. "Bill" Fluharty of Federalsburg and five grandchildren, Dennis F. Towle, Phillip J. Towle, Gary C. Nagel, Sarah M. Nagel and Hannah S. Nagel. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark''s United Methodist Church, Easton, on Tuesday, June 19th, at 2 P.M. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton. Friends may call at the church on Monday evening, June 18th, from 7 - 9 P.M. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark''s United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD or to The Easton Day Care Center, 11 Magnolia St., Easton, MD 21601. Funeral arrangements are by The Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton.
