John L. "Jack" Wright

John L. “Jack” Wright of Worton, MD passed away on April 9, 2024. He was 84 years old. He was born in Chestertown, MD on December 7, 1939, the son of the late John Malmsbury Wright and Alice Kennedy Wright. After graduating from Chestertown High School with the class of 1957, he married Margaret Ann Nicholson. He began working with the Nicholson family as a plumber with Nicholson Supply, and then with Vita Food. He found his career across the road from Vita Food as a salesman for Cooper John Deere, where he worked for 43 years before his retirement. On April 25, 2004, he married Jean Lusby Wright. While working for John Deere, he also farmed at his farm on Chinquapin Road as well as his family’s farm until 2016. Before the pandemic hit in 2020, he had begun working in real estate with Doug Ashley and Hogans. He also served on the Kent County Board of Elections as Supervisor from 1969-2003. He attended both Kennedyville and Worton United Methodist Churches. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and collecting decoys. He was an avid sports fan and loved spending time watching football, baseball, and NASCAR, rooting for the Ravens, Orioles, and Kyle Busch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Ann Glazier; stepson, Mark A. Lusby; and brothers, Wayne Morris Wright and David Richard Wright. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jean Lusby Wright of Worton, MD; son, John Michael Wright (Lorena) of Chestertown, MD; brother, Allan K. Wright of Tucson, AZ; stepdaughters, Sharon Redding (Steve) of Galena, MD and Donna Ingram (Scott) of Chestertown, MD; grandchildren: David, Amanda, and Nicole; step-grandchildren: Brett, Lindsay, Lyle, Ben, Adam, Scott, Aaron, Casey, Jay, Caitlin, and Ryan; as well as four great-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Monday, April 15 at 1:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown. A visitation will be held two hours prior, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Chester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Care Shelter of Kent County at 10168 Worton Rd.
