John Preston Foreman

John P. Foreman of Chestertown, MD, died on September 30, 2018, at Golden Rule Assisted Living in Rock Hall, MD. He was 83. He was born on July 31, 1935, in Fairlee, MD, the son of the late John Noah and Julia Nickerson Foreman. He was a 1954 graduate of Chestertown High School and on October 20, 1956, he married Jean A. Blackiston. Mr. Foreman served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict from 1957 until 1963 when he was honorably discharged. In 1963, he and his brother-in-law, George Gorsuch started F & G Construction Inc., a construction business he ran until his retirement in 1997. He loved to build, hunt on his two farms, in Kent County. He was an excellent furniture maker and active within his church, Salem United Methodist Church, Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post #36, Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, Kent Ruritans, Sons of the American Revolution, and the Cotillion Club. He was also a Charter Member of Chestertown Elks Lodge #2474. He and his wife enjoyed visiting and climbing Lighthouses, spending time with their grandchildren, and traveling. In addition to his wife of nearly 62 years, he is survived by his children, Dr. J. Douglas Foreman and his wife, Beverly Myers Foreman of Elkton, MD, Bryan P. Foreman and his wife Carolyn Anthony Foreman of Chestertown, MD, and Brenda Foreman Evans and her husband David Alan Evans of Tucson, AZ; along with seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four siblings, Grace Gorsuch, Doris Raleigh, Catherine Coleman, and S. Robert Foreman. Services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at Salem United Methodist Church in Fairlee. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD. Interment will be in Chester Cemetery. Following the interment, a reception will be held at Salem United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church. The Foreman family would like to express their sincere thanks to all of the friends, caregivers and agencies, and the Golden Rule Assisted Living Home who supported John through his challenging illness. We thank you for your gifts of food, cards, flowers, and donations to Salem United Methodist Church. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and support. Also, thank you to everyone who attended the viewing and/or funeral service. Your presence helped us celebrate a truly loved and respected man.
