John Richard Bossert III

John Richard Bossert, III, of Stevensville, MD, passed away on December 6, 2015, at Compass Regional Hospice Center in Centreville, MD. He was 47. Born on April 5, 1968, John was the son of Patricia (Lamb) and John R. Bossert, Jr., of Stevensville, MD. He grew up in Annapolis until his family moved to Stevensville. John was a graduate of Queen Anne’s County High School Class of 1986. He attended Control Data Institute in Virginia where he received his Information Technology certification. John began his career as a federal contractor within the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and in 1998 he became a federal employee with the DEA. He retired as the Section Chief of the Diversion Technology Section where he supervised over 50 employees. In 1992, John joined the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department and was a life-long life member. John served the department as Vice President, Board Member, and multiple other offices including EMS Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief. John was very active in Queen Anne’s County with the DESAC committee and served as Chair of the EMS Commission for the FEC. He helped create and write policies for the county within the volunteer fire service, and was active in promoting safety and injury prevention countywide. John continued to gain knowledge in the EMS field, completing his EMT-I certification just before being diagnosed with ALS. John was also an active member of the Kent Island Elks Lodge. He loved the Ravens and the Orioles as well as hunting, carpentry, playing cards, softball, flag football but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, John and Pat Bossert, John is survived by his wife, Lynn Bossert of Stevensville, MD; sons John R. Bossert, IV, and James Wyatt Bossert of Stevensville, MD; stepsons Robert Dustin Wilson (Mary) of Virginia Beach, VA; Steven Cory Wilson of Frederick, MD; sister, Cindy Cleary (Chris) of Stevensville, MD; grandchildren, Landon Bray Kleis; Whitney Halligan Wilson; godmother, Peggy Rebstock; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitations will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD, where a service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Stevensville Cemetery.
