Joan Adams Meehan

Joan Adams Meehan, 79, of Easton, MD, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 7, 2014, surrounded by her family. Joan was born on November 7, 1934, in Baltimore MD, the daughter of the late Pius Adams and Agatha Benesunas Adams. She graduated at the top of her class from Mt. St. Agnes College and received her nursing degree from Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. She went on to earn a Master's Degree in Nursing from Salisbury University. In 1958, Joan moved to Easton and became an instructor at the McQueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing. She touched many lives during her 25 years of teaching. Joan was the devoted wife to her husband of 57 years, Francis Alan Meehan, by whom she is survived, along with her loving children, Michael (Bonnie) of Salisbury MD, Patrick of Easton, David (Nickol) of Salt Lake City, UT, and Elizabeth (Bruce) of Ambler, PA; two brothers, George Adams of Baltimore, MD and Paul Adams (Judy) of Hagerstown, MD; as well as six grandchildren, Kathryn, Stephen, Daniel, Emily, Zachary, and Brody. She was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, was active at the YMCA, and a long-time member of the Talbot County Women's Club. Joan enjoyed reading, cooking, shopping, gardening, bird-watching, traveling, playing tennis and bridge. She loved all animals, especially her dear cat, Lucy. Most cherished by the family are memories of time spent with their beloved mother. She was the most kind, wonderful, loving and talented woman. Joan was advisor, companion, best friend, and attentive listener. She gave many gifts to her children and family during her lifetime, but the greatest of all was her final gift -- time to say goodbye. She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1210 S. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Church Cemetery in Cordova. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newman Funeral Home, 200 S.
