Jesse Wilson Roberts Jr.

Jesse Wilson Roberts, Jr. of Centreville, MD died on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at his home. He was 63. Born March 23, 1944 in Temple, TX, he was the son of the late Jesse Wilson and Helen Phyllis Shields Roberts. He was raised mostly in parts of southeastern Pennsylvania and graduated from Upper Darby High School in Drexel Hill, PA in the Class of 1962. He then received a B.S. Degree from Pennsylvania Military College. He served as an Intelligence Officer in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Following his release from active duty he started working as a dispatcher for Movery Port Co. in Baltimore, MD. He later worked for the Maryland Toll Facilities and retired after 25 years of service in 1998. On March 27, 1982 he married the former, Kathleen Staniewicz. After his retirement he joined his wife working in her business “Loyal Way Travel” in Cambridge and Centreville, MD. In 2002 they retired and traveled in their motorhome all over the United States. When hurricane Katrina occurred, they made many trips down to Mississippi and carried many supplies into the area. He was a member of the Queenstown Lions Club, Bay Country Moose, Chestertown Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, Eastern Shore Eagles Motorhomes Club, Bay Area Bounders, Piedmont area, Family Motor Coaches Assoc., American Legion of Centreville, MD and VFW, Grasonville, MD. Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Kathy of Centreville; a son, Jesse Roberts of Chase, MD; a sister, Judy Kearns of Burlington, VT; a brother, David Roberts of Tolchester, MD; a mother-in-law, Geraldine Storey of Annapolis, MD; a sister-in-law, Doreen Thompson of Glen Burnie; three aunts, Frances Roberts of Drexel Hill, PA and Lois McWilliams of McLean, VA and Sophie Shields of Haverford, PA; an uncle, B. Bert Shields of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Cecelia Grace Roberts and Tate Alexander Roberts and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at the Church Hill United Methodist Church, Church Hill, MD on Thursday, May 31, 2007at 11:00 AM. Friends and family may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., Centreville, MD on Wednesday evening from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8. Burial will be at Crownsville Veteran Cemetery, Crownsville, MD. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Queen Anne’s Inc., 423 Thompson Creek Road, Stevensville, MD 21666.
