Jerry Kersey Hunter

Jerry Kersey Hunter, of Queenstown, Maryland, peacefully passed away on January 31, 2026. He was 82 years old. Born on August 19, 1943, at his home in Grasonville, Maryland, Jerry was the son of the late James Edison Hunter, Sr. and Lelia Mae Sewell. Early in life, he worked many jobs, including working on the water, farming, and carpentry. He later found his calling in law enforcement and proudly served as a Bay Bridge Police Officer for 20 years, a career he truly loved. After retiring from the police force, Jerry became a successful business owner, opening Hunter’s Automotive. Following the passing of his father, he took over Hunter’s Crabs, where he enjoyed the work and especially the customers he met along the way. A graduate of the Police Academy, Jerry took pride in his accomplishments and work ethic. He was known for his sense of humor, love of laughter, and playful personality — those who knew him never quite knew what to expect, and that was part of what made him so special. Above all, Jerry loved his family and treasured time spent together. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his tractor, listening to music, dancing, and most of all, riding his Harley-Davidson. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sandra “Sandy” Hunter; his daughters, Michelle Hunter and Melody Hunter; son-in-law Steve Thrower; grandchildren Owen Hunter, Kayla and Jessie, Lacey and Kyle, Amanda and Josh, and Amber and Dylan; greatgrandchildren Amelia Borradaile and Jonah Amos and siblings Sylvia Taylor, Pam Harrison, and Dicky Hunter. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Roger Lewis and sister-in-law Robin Lewis. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his grandson Randy Drake Thrower, his brother Timothy Hunter, and his son-in-law Richard Williams. A memorial service will be held on February 20th at 12:00 p.m., with friends and family welcome to gather prior from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 408 South Liberty Street, Centreville, MD 21617. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a Randy D. Thrower Scholarship Foundation, 9181 Salt Life Lane, Ocean City, MD 21842.
