Jeannette Marie Radtke

Jeannette Marie Radtke of Ridgely, MD passed away on December 24 after a long battle with dementia. Born February 2, 1941, Jeannette Marie Weber spent her early childhood growing up on the southwest side of Baltimore near St. Agnes Hospital on Benson Ave. She was an only child, born to Henry Weber, who worked as a manager at Greenmount Cemetery and her mother, Gladys Weber (Crisp) who worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company. At 11 years old, the family moved to Arbutus where she spent the rest of her school years and early adult life. This would be the first time she would ride a school bus. She was so excited! She graduated from Catonsville High School in 1959. During her high school years, Jeannette attended the Maryland School of Art on Saturdays where she learned to draw, paint and design women’s clothing. This love continued throughout the rest of her life as she would enter various local contests and often get 1st and 2nd place ribbons which she was very proud to display in her home. In her early 20’s, she spent a year in Germany with a friend, although being away from her parents and other family members brought her back to the states. Although she loved to paint and draw, Jeannette’s real passion was the medical field, helping others. Most of her life she worked in the health industry. She started at St Agnes Hospital, moved on to the dentistry field as a dental assistant, and also worked with patients in the physical therapy field as a tech. After retirement, she continued her desire to helping others by volunteering for Hospice in Queen Annes County. She also volunteered time at the VFW in Grasonville helping wherever they needed her with a close friend. She also loved animals, as she had many throughout her life. She would dress them up in costumes for Halloween, get their pictures taken with Santa, and take them for car rides whenever feasible. Jeannette is survived by her (2) sons Albert “Trey” Radtke (Susan) of Rosedale, MD and Keith Radtke (Cathleen) of Ridgely, MD, (2) granddaughters Brianne Radtke (Jason) and Abigail Radtke, a very close and special friend Dennis Stephens as well as her 4-legged companion Ranger. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Caroline County SPCA, Compass Hospice in Centreville, MD or the The Alzheimer’s Foundation to support dementia research. Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 6th from 5 - 7pm, Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 408 S. Liberty Street, Centreville, MD 21617. Funeral Mass will be held, Wednesday, January 7th at 10 am, St. Benedicts Catholic Church, 2612 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore, MD 21223 with the Burial following
