Jeanne C. Swanson

Jeanne Elizabeth Cox Swanson died April 16, 2001 at Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 62. Born November 19, 1938, in Easton MD, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Percy Evans and Josephine Lecompte Frampton Cox. She attended The Country School and graduated from Easton High School in June 1956. In June 1960 she received her A.B. degree in English from Randolph-Macon Women''s College where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. In August 1980, she received a Masters degree in Social Work at the University of Maryland. She began her career in social service work, November 1965 at the Talbot County Department of Social Services, where she worked until April 1989. At the time of her resignation, she was the Assistant Director for Social Services. In April 1989, she began working at the Talbot County Health Department in the Geriatric Evaluation Service. She retired July 1, 1999 but in September 1999, she returned to work part time for the Geriatric Service. She was employed in that position at the time of her death. During her professional career, Mrs. Swanson was a field instructor for the University of Maryland School of Social Work and was on the Board of Directors of Bethany House, The Talbot County Mental Health Association and Upper Shore Aging, Inc. She was a member of the Union Dorcas Society from 1985 until the time of her death. Her June 25, 1960 marriage to Herbert Megraw Swope ended in divorce. On June 20, 1969 she married Robert Theodore Swanson who died June 16,1984. Mrs. Swanson is survived by a daughter, Linda Ryan Swope Sellers and her husband Brad A. Sellers; three grandchildren, Caroline Jeanne Sellers, Derek Barry Sellers and Margaret Kathryn sellers; a brother, Dr. Robert W. Cox of Wilmington, DE; a sister Margaret Evans Cox Moser of Mountainside, NJ; two nieces and a nephew. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 20, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton. Burial will be private at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.
