Jean Alison Gauthier

Final Words from a Husband to a Grand Wife: Jean Alison Christie Gauthier was born January 30, 1921 in North Ireland to James and Victoria Christie as the second of three children. She emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of six. She became a US citizen in 1953. She worked as an accountant and later as a specialist in university library systems. She handled her own finances throughout her life providing excellent examples of retaining her identity as an individual yet conforming to a secure, comfortable family environment She was an accomplished artisan completing the design, painting, glazing, firing in her own kiln hundreds of ceramic pieces of art She was an expert in various forms of needlework including needlepoint, fashion design clothing, afghans, intricate hand-stitched quilted bedspreads, professional home draperies. Her expertise in the adaptation of colors to her artisan work was outstanding. All the while, she bore five children, three daughters, two sons, and provided a secure, comfortable, enjoyable environment to raise them to be highly educated, well established, motivated, independent persons in their own right She married Lee Gauthier in 1944, her husband of 66 years and was a sincere, joyful companion with him throughout her whole life. She wholeheartedly supported and participated in all the various ventures entered into with her husband including support at university, businesses, family and travel She traveled with him to numerous foreign countries including her own birthplace. She participated in family activities including equestrian and later sailing activities becoming brave enough(but not too brave) to sail across Lake Ontario with only her fifteen year old son and his fourteen year old friend She is surv~ved by her husband of 66 years, Lee Gauthier, her sister, Alice, five children, Paul, Sharon, Catherine, Raymond, and Laureen, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was a marvelous companion to her husband and will be sincerely missed leaving him with a broken heart.
