Janine Marie DiGiovine

Janine Marie Maheux DiGiovine of Stevensville, MD, a beloved mother & wonderful pianist died October 16, 2016, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. She was 89. Born March 28, 1927, in St. Joseph de Beauce, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Romeó Maheux and Léda Bernier. She would receive her degree in Music and Art from Ursuline Academy Quebec, Canada. While in Quebec, she had a small business designing and selling hats to ladies, until she mustered the courage to pack and move to the USA – Boston, MA, in her early twenties in 1949. It was there that she met the love of her life, John Joseph DiGiovine, and they would marry on June 30, 1950. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Georgetown, Washington DC. In 1976, they decided to move from the Washington, DC, area to Kent Island, and two years later in 1978, they opened a pharmacy, Kent Drug, Inc. in Chester, MD, which they operated for 33 years. She was a wonderful pianist who adored the art if music. A beautiful soul, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved life and everyone around her. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD She is survived by her children, Gregory Alberto DiGiovine (Earllynn), Victor DiGiovine (Deborah) Claude DiGiovine, Eva Marie DiGiovine Stoops (Bill) and Dominic DiGiovine; a son-in-law, Jeff Ogle; three siblings, Jocelyne Maheux, Denyse Maheux Tremblay, and Lise Maheux Turgeon; six grandchildren, Victor Paul DiGiovine, Angela Marie DiGiovine, Natalie DiGiovine, Geneva Marie Harrison, Britnie Stoops, and Mellissa Stoops. Her husband, John Joseph DiGiovine; daughter, Linda M. DiGiovine; and brother, Guy Maheux all predeceased her. A visitation will be held on Thursday October 20, 2016, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, PA, at 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. on Friday October 21, 2017, at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD. Interment will immediately follow mass at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Serenity Enhancement Center, LLC, 207 North Liberty Street, Suite C, Centreville, MD 21617 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
