Janice J. Whaley

Janice Jean Whaley of Queenstown, MD, passed away peacefully at Bayleigh Chase on August 9, 2018. Born on February 10, 1936, in Easton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Richard James and Clara Virginia Cooper. She would often speak of her childhood growing up in Talbot County. Janice graduated from Easton High School in 1954. Shortly after, she worked as a telephone operator for C&P Telephone for several years. She enjoyed her time working there and would often tell others about her overheard funny stories. On December 9th, 1955, she married the love of her life, Ralph Whaley Sr. She was a dedicated farm wife. Every day, she would make sure that the men were transported around and fed lunch and dinner. Mrs. Whaley was so generous with her time that she watched many of her grandchildren as they were growing up. They considered her a second mom. Janice Whaley was a member of the Queen Anne’s County Calvary United Methodist Church. She had many hobbies. Whether it was traveling and vacationing with friends when she was younger or with family in her later years, she loved spending time with the ones that she loved. Mrs. Whaley loved to host holiday dinners for all of her family to attend. She was such a magnificent cook that everyone always anticipated her delicious home-cooked meals! Mrs. Whaley was an avid shopper, often times spoiling her many grandchildren. She enjoyed going on long drives through the countryside with her husband to many different destinations. She was a dedicated wife, mother, mom-mom and friend to all that she knew. She is survived by her children Ralph Carvel Whaley, Jr. (April Whaley) of Queenstown, MD, Brenda Whaley Edwards (Mike Edwards) of Queenstown, MD, and Debbie Sparks (Dudley Sparks) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Matthew Whaley, Brandy Conley, Jenny Whitby, Nichole Whaley, Brooke Whaley, Sophie Whaley, Spencer Whaley and MacKenzie Whaley; and great-grandchildren: Kameron Whaley, Lilli Calderon, Braxtyn Conley, Cadence Conley, Jaxson Whitby, Addyson Bleclic and Mason Moore. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Ralph C. Whaley, Sr.; and her brothers, Richard, Robert and James Cooper. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 17, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A in Centreville, MD, where friends and family may visit on Thursday, August 16, from 6-8 pm as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville, MD. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to either Calvary United Methodist Church or The American Heart Association.
