Janice Kaye Stewart

Janice Kaye Stewart, a beloved mother, wife, nana, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away at her home on September 23rd, 2023, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Janice was born on May 8, 1958, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Claude and Ellen Davenport. In the late 1980s, she met the love of her life, and they embarked on a lifelong journey together, ultimately settling down on Kent Island in Maryland. Over the course of 38 remarkable years, Janice's heart belonged to her devoted husband, Milton Stewart II, whom she considered her true soulmate and the cornerstone of her life. Janice was a loving mother to her daughter, Lisa Mays, and a proud mother-in-law to Rich Mays. Her youngest granddaughters, Daphne and Ellie Mays, brought endless happiness to her life. Her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters lived with her and cared for her during her final years and are so thankful for that extra time and the precious memories created. Janice was also a stepmother to Pete Stewart and his wife Darlene Stewart, Paul Stewart and his wife Melissa Stewart, and Cali McClain and her husband Griffin McClain. Janice is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Matt Stewart and his wife Maria Tannous, Cortlyn McClain, Saylor McClain, Paulie Stewart, Jack Stewart, and her step-great-granddaughter Layla Stewart. In addition to her immediate family, Janice's circle of love extended to her surviving sister, Sharon Westbrook, and her niece, Leah Cook. Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ellen Davenport, her in-laws who treated her as their own, Milton and Ruth Stewart, as well as her older brother, Kenneth Davenport, and her twin brother, Jimmy Davenport. While their physical presence is no longer with us, their memories live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved them. Janice will be remembered for her warm smile, her passion for reading and lifelong learning, and for being the best Nana. Janice Kaye Stewart leaves behind a legacy of love and an enduring impact on all who knew her. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared. Her memory will forever remain etched in our hearts. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 starting at 1pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 106 Shamrock Rd. Chester, MD 21619.
