Jane Carroll Metz

Jane Carroll Metz of Easton, MD, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Talbot Hospice House. She was 87. Born May 5, 1926, in Dover, DE, she was the daughter of the late Anthony B. Carroll, Sr. and Edythe Meredith Carroll. After graduating from Dover High School in 1944, she attended the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, DE, as part of the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Training Program. In 1947, she became an RN. On May 10, 1947, she married David Kirby Metz, Jr. at Kate’s Point Farm in Trappe. They made their home in Trappe, and she worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital in Easton, and the Glasgow Nursing Home and Eastern Shore Hospital, both in Cambridge. Jane was also a co-owner of Queen Anne Grain Co. for thirty years. She retired in 1988. She was a life member of Trappe United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband of sixty-six years, Mrs. Metz is survived by a daughter, Beverly Metz Blakeney and her husband Tink of Chestertown, MD; a son, Wayne Carroll Metz of Easton, MD; two sisters, Elizabeth C. Kresge (Carl) of Greenville, SC, and Nancy C. Horsey of Easton, MD; a brother-in-law, Thomas H. Metz (Joan) of Magnolia, DE; a daughter-in-law Sophie Dyer Metz of Dallas, GA; two former daughters-in-law, Beth S. Hill of Gainesville, GA, and Kathy R. Nazare of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Christopher Hudson Metz, Sara Metz Dyott (Steven), Heather Blakeney Ewing (JR), Laura Kate Royer (Kevin), Matthew Gary Metz and Major Timothy Jon Metz, USAF; eight great-grandchildren, Kelsi Elizabeth Dyott, Steven Dawson Dyott, Toby James Metz, Katelyn Marie Metz, Abigail Jane Ewing, Kirby Elliott Ewing, Hudson Maxwell Royer and Blake Haven Royer; and two step-grandchildren, Karla Dyer and Danyell Knights. She is preceded in death by two sons, Gary Hudson Metz, March 19, 1973, while serving in the U.S. Navy, and David Kirby Metz, III, a Vietnam veteran, August 20, 2005; two brothers, Anthony B. Carroll, Jr., and Chester Lee Carroll; a sister, Louise C. Marine; a sister-in-law, Orna Lee Metz Massey; a brother-in-law George E. Massey; and a brother-in-law, Harvey S. Horsey. A visitation will be held at on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, from 6 – 8 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 200 S. Harrison St, Easton, MD. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at 11:00 am, at Trappe United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, near Easton, MD. Serving as pall bearers will be: Chris Metz, Matt Metz, Tim Metz, Tink Blakeney, Kevin Royer and JR Ewing. Memorial donations may be made to the Trappe United Methodist Church, P.O.
