James O Neill Jenkins

J. O’Neill Jenkins of Easton died at William Hill Manor on Saturday August 23, 2003. He was 89. Born on May 17, 1914 in Fishing Creek, Maryland he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Elizabeth Simmons Jenkins. He graduated from Cambridge High School where he was active in soccer and basketball. A long time resident of Frederick Maryland, Mr. Jenkins had an extensive business career in the vegetable processing industry at Jenkins Foods Corporation with plants in two states. He was the owner of Jenkins Motors Nissan/Oldsmobile, Inc., Western Maryland General Tire, Inc. and Stouter Oil Company. Mr. Jenkins was co-founder of Sea Watch International, the major processor of Atlantic clams and specialty seafood products. He was a co-founder of Chesapeake Bank and Trust in Chestertown, Maryland. Upon retiring in his seventies, he was the founding member of The First Bank of Frederick, now a subsidiary of BB&T. He resided with his family at Gray Fox Farm in Centreville, Maryland before moving to Easton. An active member of the Mid-Atlantic Food Processors Association, he served as Board member and a term as its President. He was a member of the Frederick Cotillion Club, the Frederick Catoctin Club and a 32 Degree Mason. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Rebecca Medford Jenkins, he is survived by two daughters, Peggy Prevost and her husband, Gene of Trappe; Valerie Jenkins of Rehoboth, Delaware. He also is survived by two granddaughters Michele Prevost Corr and her husband John of Walkersville, Maryland and Jennifer Prevost Murphy and her husband Tom of Mt. Airy, Maryland and five great grandchildren, Michael and Christian Corr and Thomas, Bridget and Brian Murphy. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A. in Easton, Maryland where friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Talbot County Emergency Medical Services, 29401 Corkran Road, Easton, Maryland 21601.
