Helen Hall Stilson

Helen Hall Stilson of Queenstown, formerly of Adelphi, Maryland died of cancer on December 7, 2003. She was 78 years old. Born in Herber Springs, Arkansas on March 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Helen Mozelle Hall. During World War II, Mrs. Stilson worked as an airplane welder for McDonald Douglas before joining the Marine Corps in 1945. After the war she attended the University of Maryland under the GI Bill of Rights receiving a BA Degree in Business Administration, and later received her Masters Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. Mrs. Stilson was an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency for thirty years prior to retiring in 1987. After retirement she moved with her husband to Queenstown, MD. While residing in Queenstown, she volunteered as a member and officer of the United Way of Queen Anne’s County, the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council, and the Kent Island Federation of Art. She was also a member of the Prospect Bay Yacht Club, the 18th Hole Women’s Golf Association, the book club and the Garden Club. Mrs. Stilson’s hobbies during her lifetime were water skiing, reading, golf and art. She taught many, many children to water-ski at the family home in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Lewis F. Stilson whom she married in 1948; a daughter, Martha Crystal Caporal of New York City; a son, George Ripley Stilson of Grasonville, MD; two grandsons, George Ryan Stilson of Gaithersburg and Brennan John Stilson of Sikesville, MD; a sister, Jean Gates of Bellingham, Washington and two brothers, William E. Hall of Herber Springs, Arkansas and Joe A. Hall of Madras, Oregon. A memorial service will be held 1 PM on Thursday December 11, 2003 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Parish in Queenstown, MD. Following the service there will be a reception at the family’s home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Queen Anne’s County Adult Day Care, P.O Box 938, Stevensville, MD 21666 and in kind contributions be made to Estate Treasures, 17 Kent Towne Market, Chester, MD 21619. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the columbarium at Old Wye Parish in Wye Mills, MD. Arrangements were provided by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A. in Chester, MD.
