Helen Cannon

Helen Virginia Cannon of Chestertown, Maryland died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 80. Born August 5, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John Samuel and Nora May Smith Taylor. She graduated from Sudlersville High School Class of 1940. After graduation she was employed by Merck, Sharpe and Dome Pharmaceutical Company in Philadelphia. On July 14, 1945 she married A. Edward Cannon of Ingleside, Maryland and they raised their family in Ingleside and Church Hill, Maryland. She worked as a switchboard operator at the Kent and Queen Anne’s hospital from 1969 to 1985. She was predeceased by Edward, her husband of 54 years, on December 8, 1999; one son, Stewart Cannon on January 9, 1976; two brothers, John Taylor and Joseph Taylor and four sisters, Elma Cramer, Rachel Davis, Mabel Fetterolf, and Ruth Taylor. She was always active in her church and taught Sunday School at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Ingleside and Church Hill United Methodist Church in Church Hill. In recent years she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chestertown. She was an excellent seamstress and she loved to quilt, cook, and read. Mrs. Cannon is survived by two sons, Michael Allen Cannon of Smyrna, Delaware and Daniel Taylor Cannon and his wife, Sandy of Centreville, Maryland; one daughter, Nora Mae Lucas and her husband, John of Centreville; four grandchildren, Tina Aquillon and her husband, Adam of Dover, Delaware, Bill Cannon and his wife, Amy of Chestertown, Brian Lucas and Tara Lucas, both of Centreville, Maryland; four great grandchildren, Alexandra Cannon of Chestertown, and Jeremy, Amanda and Nathan Aquillon, all of Dover, Delaware; one sister, Edith Callahan of Dover, DE; and one brother, William Howard Taylor of Albuquerque, NM. Funeral Services will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Maryland on Friday, July 23, 2004 at 11:00 AM. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00- 11:00. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers are Bill Cannon, Brian Lucas, Ryan Walls, Jack Pullen, Taylor Rodney and Jim Freeman.
