Helen Bernice Brom

Helen Bernice Brom died on February 15, 2018, in Easton, MD. She was 98. She was born on November 1, 1919, in Baltimore City, the daughter of the late Nelson M. Rodey and Alice Jacobs Rodey. Helen married James Rudolf Brom on February 17, 1939 and they made their home in Pasadena, MD. She was employed with Westinghouse in multiple facilities managing their cafeterias. At the age of 55, she went to school to become an LPN, working as a unit secretary at Harborview Medical Center until her retirement in the early 80’s. After retirement, she and her husband then relocated to Cambridge, MD. Following her husband’s death in 1987, Helen relocated to Annapolis, MD, to be closer to her family. It was there that she joined the Lutheran Church in Crofton and served as a volunteer for the Lutheran Mission Society for over 20 years. After relocating to Easton in 2008, she joined Grace Lutheran Church and continued her volunteer services for the Easton Hospital Auxiliary and St. Vincent de Paul. Helen enjoyed all types of music – from the big band sounds of the 40’s to classical and everything in between. She loved to dance and belonged to a line dance club in Annapolis where they were invited to entertain at various locations, including nursing homes, assistant living facilities, etc. She also loved to play Bridge and belonged to Bridge clubs wherever she happened to reside. Helen is survived by her daughter, Diane C. Lusby and her husband, Brendon P. Lusby of Easton; grandchildren, Tracy L. Aaron and Lesley K. Aaron; a great grandchild, Julian A. DiCarlantonio; sisters, Dorothy “June” Clarke of North Ft. Myers, FL, and Valerie Miller of Ellicott City, MD; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Rudolph Brom, and a brother Nelson “Buck” Tucker Rodey. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 200 S. Harrison St., in Easton, where friends may call one half hour prior from 10:30 – 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s honor to Grace Lutheran Church, 111 Brookletts Ave, Easton, MD 21601 and The Lutheran Mission Society Compassion Center, 230 West St, Annapolis, 21401.
