Harry Russell Jenkins III

Our beloved Harry R. Jenkins III, “Pop",” Uncle Harry "of Washington, D.C., a husband, grandfather, coach, businessman, a mentor, and a great friend, and most importantly, a man who made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him, passed away peacefully at his home on June 10, 2026. Harry survived by his loving wife Joanie R. Jenkins, his adoring children Lizabeth J. Park, Sherry A. DeRose (Matt), and Harry R. Jenkins IV. He was a proud grandfather to Madison K. Park, William R. Park III, Harry R. Jenkins V, Carter M. DeRose, and Oliver A. Jenkins. He is also survived by his sister Mary Fran Jenkins, brothers David E. Jenkins, Stephen W. Jenkins, and Michael J. Jenkins, and many other loving family members. Harry’s story began in Washington, D.C., where he was born and raised. He attended St. Bernadette School before continuing his education at St. John’s Military College High School and later North Carolina State University. Throughout his life, athletics played a major role, and Harry excelled in every sport he pursued, though football always held a special place in his heart. His love for the game led him to coaching, where he shared his knowledge and passion with countless young athletes. He coached football at Georgetown University and at St. John’s Military College High School, helping lead teams to success, including a championship season in 1989. But Harry was never simply; a coach focused on wins and losses. He was a mentor. He believed in developing people, not just players. Long after the games ended, many of those he coached continued to seek his advice, guidance, and friendship. That same commitment to helping others extended into his business career. As an owner of Schooner Bay and Harrys’ Cafe, Harry he gave countless people their first opportunity. For many, he provided not just their first job, he created a safe space where people came together” a lot after hours”, friendships were made, families grew, marriages began, babies were born but more importantly, he provided something we will never ever forget, confidence, direction, and life lessons that stayed with us forever. He saw potential in people before they saw it in themselves, and he took great pride in helping others succeed. What truly made Harry special, however, was not his accomplishments; it was the way he made people feel. He had a rare gift for connection. Whether you had spoken to him yesterday or twenty years ago, when you saw Harry again, it felt like no time had passed. He picked up every conversation as if you were lifelong friends. He had an infectious personality, a warm heart, and a genuine interest in people. Everyone who traveled with Harry knew that no trip was ever a quiet one. Whether crossing Chesapeake Bay at 30 miles per hour or 60 miles per hour, everywhere he went, somebody knew him. A familiar face would appear, a story would be shared, and laughter would follow. It was not because he sought attention; it was because he left an impression. People remembered Harry because Harry remembered them. He lived life fully. He embraced every adventure, every friendship, and every opportunity to bring people together. He believed life was meant to be enjoyed, and that success was best measured by the positive impact you have on others. He lifted people up, encouraged them to dream bigger, and helped them become the best versions of themselves. The measure of a life is not found in titles, trophies, or accomplishments alone. It is found in the lives touched, the friendships built, and the memories created. By that measure, Harry’s life was extraordinary. Today, while we mourn his passing, we also celebrate life well lived. We celebrate a man who coached, mentored, guided, laughed, encouraged, and loved. We celebrate a man whose legacy will live on through the countless people he helped, the friendships he cherished, and the family who meant so much to him.ck Harry Jenkins was one of those rare people you will never forget. He was a LEGEND! His stories, his laughter, his wisdom, and his generosity will remain with us forever. And while he may no longer be with us in person, his influence continues in every life he touched. Harry’s legacy will live on through Sunsets, Bacardi Limon, and being the best version of yourself. Thank you for the life lessons, friendship, memories, and the example of what the presentation of life should look like; you set it up for all of us.
