Harriet Ann Tuller Mechling

Harriet Ann Tuller Mechling of Easton passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton from a lengthy illness. Born in Rochester, New York, on October 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late, Harry and Jeannette Tuller. Ann graduated from Eastchester High School in Tuckahoe, New York in 1943. She then attended Syracuse Universy, where she was a Home Economics major, a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and the accompanist for the Syracuse University Glee Club. Graduating in 1947, she took a job in New York City as the casting director for the prominent Compton Advertising Agency. She married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Mechling, Jr. in 1949 at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York. She then embarked on a career as an Air Force pilot's wife for the next 24 years, supporting Eugene in his assignments to Korea, Louisiana, England, Texas, Florida, Vietnam and Virginia. During Eugene's frequent absences, including three combat tours, Ann raised her children, Andrew and Gene. After the Air Force, Ann and Eugene moved to Aspen, Colorado, where they resided for ten years, and later to Reston, Virginia, before settling in Easton in 1987 in order to be close to family. Ann loved to travel, especially to Europe, and was an avid reader and lover of the arts, especially the classical music greats. She was the perfect homemaker, mother and grandmother and she instilled in her children and grandchildren a deep appreciation for the arts and the importance of etiquette. In addition to her beloved husband of 61 years, Eugene Mechling, Jr., she is survived by her son, Andrew Mechling of Patuxent River, Maryland; her daughter, Gene Mechling of Reston, Virginia; her grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Katie, Molly and Laura, who will miss their "Granny Ann" greatly. She was predeceased by her parents and by her older sister, Jane Voss. Friends and family are invited to call at the family's home in Easton on Saturday, April 3, from 2:00 until 5:00 PM.
