Harold Amos Duckery

Harold Amos “Sonny” Duckery of Millington, MD, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Peninsula Regional Hospital, Salisbury, MD. Mr. Duckery was born January 24, 1953, in Easton, MD, the son of the late Amos Ashley and Mary Johnson. Sonny was a 1971 graduate of Aberdeen Senior High School, Aberdeen, MD. He later pursued work at Aberdeen Proving Grounds as a Dining Hall Supervisor. In 1973, he relocated to Los Angeles, CA, pursuing work in the insurance industry. In 1998, Sonny returned home to help care for his beloved grandmother Lillian “Mom Lillian” Johnson in Millington, MD. Sonny was very active in Graves Chapel U.A.M.E. church where he served as an Usher, Trustee and helped coordinate numerous activities at the church. He will be remembered as a very talented playwright and erformer, one who loved to dress, dance and travel. His greatest satisfaction was spending time with his much-adored godchildren, Aireona and Dezmeir. From 2010 until his departure, Sonny resided at Deer’s Head Hospital Center, Salisbury, MD, requiring continuous medical attention. While there, he truly enjoyed the company of the other residents, bingo, reading, watching sports, offsite eateries, and trips to Walmart. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl Johnson and Thomas Duckery; stepfather, Charles Duckery Sr.; his beloved grandparents, John and Lillian Johnson and John and Mae Flethcher Ashley; and two very precious aunts, Lucinda (Lucy) Martin and Vivian (Aunt Vivian) Garnett. He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Helena C. Duckery of Aberdeen, MD; three brothers, Louis “Joe” Duckery (Nina) of Glen Burnie, MD, Howard Wayne Duckery (Anna) of Havre De Grace, MD, Charles Duckery Jr. of Woodbridge, VA; godchildren, Aireona and Dezmeir; four aunts, Virginia Duckery, Chesterville, MD, Faye Ashley Kennedy and Anna “Gert” Ashley Pondtown, MD and Marian Kennedy, Sudlersville, MD; two uncles, Henry “Sonny” Ashley (Darlene), Bear, DE and Nelson Garnett, Pondtown, MD; two special cousins, Vera Dozier, Pondtown, MD, and Shirley Duckery, Worton, MD; special niece, Chaelina Duckery-Ball (Greg) of Havre De Grace, MD; special great-nephews, Christopher John Wayne and Cameron Michael Ball of Havre De Grace, MD; and a host of other cousins, friends and caregivers, at Deer’s Head Hospital Center, his home away from home, for the past seven years. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fellows, Family Funeral Home in Millington. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at 12:00 pm at Graves Chapel Church in Millington, where relatives and friends may also call two hours prior (10am – 12pm). Interment will be in Chesterville Cemetery following the service.
