Gladys S. Crouch

Gladys Stant Crouch of Queenstown, MD died at the Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD on Tuesday, July 3, 2007. She was 81. Born in Wye Mills, MD on April 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Laura Moore Stant. The family moved to Queenstown in the late 1930’s. After graduating from Centreville High School in 1943, she married William Crouch, Jr. While her husband was in the service she worked at Hitch’s Drugstore and was cashier at the Queen Movie Theater in Queenstown. Gladys took flying lessons and earned her solo license in 1945. During the 1950’s and 1960’s she was active in the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and the Calvary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and directed both Junior and Senior choirs. Gladys was active in the PTA and the PTA County Council, having received a PTA life membership. In 1959 she began working for the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education as secretary to the principal of Centreville High School and, later, Queen Anne’s County High School until 1973 when she transferred to the Board of Education Finance Office. She retired in 1984 and was a member of the Board of Education Retirees. Mrs. Crouch will be remembered as a fun loving person who enjoyed spending time with her family. She had a fondness for flowers and birds, and for arts and crafts. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William H. Crouch, Jr. who died in 2002. Mrs. Crouch is survived by two daughters, Vivian A. McClyment and Sue Ellen Lagno, both of Queenstown and sons-in-law, Donald M. McClyment and Fred Lagno, also of Queenstown; two granddaughters, Melanie Diane McClyment of Easton and Hannah Sue Lagno of Queenstown; a brother, Albert V. Stant; and one sister-in-law, Jean M. Stant, both of Queenstown. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., Centreville, MD where friends may call on Monday from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton, MD. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to the Hospice of Queen Anne’s County, 423 Thompson Creek Road, Stevensville, MD 21666 or to Queenstown Volunteer Fire Company/EMS, P.O.
