George William Henry Sr.

George “Bo Jack” Henry Sr. passed away peacefully at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton on July 1, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born in Chestertown, MD on April 30, 1941, the son of the late James Isaac Henry Sr. and Mary Etta Henry of Chestertown, MD. He attended local schools until he began working at local farms in the area. In 1962, he married Helen Henry (Dorsey) and not long after he found his forever career as a Farmer at Land’s End Farm in Cliff City, MD. They moved to Johnsontown Road and raised their family. There he dedicated 60+ years of his life before retiring in 2023. Many weekends you would find him shucking oysters at The Black-Eyed Susan or Chester River Country Club. He was featured on the front of the Tidewater Trader as “The Oyster Man” in 1998. When he was not working or shucking oysters, he was spending time with family, friends, hunting, traveling to Dover, or cruising the town. After retiring in his early 80’s, you could find him during the week relaxing at Aquafit, McDonald’s or Phat Daddy’s while enjoying life with a big smile on his face. On most weekends, he loved traveling to Dover or Middletown with his family. On Monday nights you could find him enjoying a meal in the company of friends at Washington College. George is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Etta Graves and James Isaac Henry Sr.; his brothers, James Henry Jr., Owen Henry, Wallace Henry Sr.; his stepson, Alando Brown Sr.; his wife, Helen Henry; his sister, Mary Etta “Rennie” Henry; his sister-in-law, Natalie Henry; his son, George “Chubby” Henry; & his stepson, Leo Hacket Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Henry of Chestertown; brother, Norman Henry Sr. of Chestertown; 6 grandchildren Melissa “Missy” Hackett of Michigan, Charles Bridles Jr. of Chestertown, Quineta Henry of Chestertown, Leo “Dusty” Hackett Jr. of Chestertown, Kyle Hackett of District of Columbia, Alando Brown Jr. of Philadelphia; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 17, 2026, at 12pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown, MD. Friends and family are encouraged to call two hours prior from 10am until 12pm. Burial will follow the service at Broadneck Cemetery.
