Frances G. Austin

Frances G. Austin passed away on Wednesday, August 15. She was 81 years old and loved by everyone who knew her. Frances was born on June 9, 1926 in Easton, MD to the late Paul Elms and Alberta Thomas Elms. She spent most of her childhood years in Easton Point where her father was a waterman and trapper and her mother owned and operated several florist’s shops in the area. She attended Easton High School; graduating class of 1943. She then moved to Grasonville in 1946 and to Kent Island in the 1960’s. She began her work at the Grasonville Sewing Factory and then became a rural mail carrier in Grasonville, and in 1966, she worked for the State of Maryland as a Data Processor Supervisor retiring in 1996 where she still enjoyed seeing many former colleagues and friends. In 1999, she moved back to her hometown of Easton. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards and was an avid reader but most important was her pride and joy, spending time with her family. Though her mobility was limited in recent years, she always found a way to get to the birthdays, weddings, and graduations of her family members. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren knew to expect a dollar from Mom-Mom in each card they received. Frances had a loving spirit and though she lived on a fixed-income, she often insisted on supporting many charities. She loved babies and children most of all. Frances Austin is survived by her beloved four children, Julia Walters, William H. Austin, Paul B. Austin and Jane E. LaBrie; two sisters Martha Miller and Dolores Cawley; ten adoring grandchildren, David Walters, Wendy Tryon, Penny Richardson, Kelly Anderson, Karen Marable, Justin LaBrie, Tara Taylor, Tory Taylor, Nick LaBrie, and Michelle Matthews; ten loving great grandchildren, Cory Walters, Rachel Walters, Nash Richardson, McKenna Richardson, Alexander Taylor, her namesake, Frances Freyder, Alexander Matthews, Landon Marable, Dylan and Harleigh Anderson. Frances had countless dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Thomas Elms. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 11 am at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD 21619. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, RTE 50E, Easton, Maryland 21601. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Children’s National Medical Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20010.
