Francenne Marie Cooper

Francenne Marie Cooper, daughter of the late Raymond Edward, Sr., and Hattie Marie Hopkins Jones, was born on January 24, 1946, in Baltimore, MD. She was the oldest of three siblings. She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Leroy Jones. She leaves to cherish her memories of her youngest brother, Raymond Edward Jones, Jr., and his wife Dorthra. Francenne was loved by many and was the adopted mother to a lot of her children’s friends. She enjoyed her life and spending time with her very close girlfriends. Her hobbies included reading novels, playing bingo, dancing, singing, and of course traveling. She learned to drive from her dad as a young girl and would later drive all over the East Coast with her children. Francenne’s favorite hobby was doing jigsaw puzzles, and we all knew better than to touch them when they were sitting on the table. As a young child, before moving to Wilmington DE, Francenne attended Henry Highland Garnett School in Chestertown and became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Georgetown, MD. In Wilmington, Francenne would meet her best friend and adopted sister, Sarah C. Temple. After spending many years in Wilmington, DE, Francenne moved back to Chestertown and became an active member of Asbury UM Church once again. She served as Treasurer and sang on the church choir. Francenne joined the local NAACP in Chestertown and later became the chapter President. She was the lead for the Chestertown Tea Party Committee as well as the Education Liaison for Kent County to ensure fairness and equity in the treatment of youth achieving their education. Francenne was an industrial worker and worked many years at Leeds Manufacturing in Smyrna, DE, Slagle in Chestertown, MD, and later with WL Gore Associates in Elkton, MD, until 2004. She was a hard worker and took pride in creating great quality products. She was always a happy face to see at work and made many work friends. Francenne married Charles E. Cooper and was a mother to four beautiful children, Darryl E. Cooper. Sr., (Vernessa), Daren T. Jones, Melissa C. Cooper (Cengiz) and Tamara C. Cooper; her brother, Raymond E. Jones, Jr. (Dorthra); adopted sister, Sarah C. Temple; four grandchildren, Darryl E. Cooper, Jr., Curtis L. Erskine, Durell M. Cooper and Jasmine D. Jones; two godsons, Gary Robbins and Donald Henry; four aunts, the Rev. Violet V. Hopkins-Tann (Theodore), Minister Evelyn E. Young (Amos), Melvina Miles, and Julia Ann Thompson (Haywood). She will also be remembered by her younger cousin who she treated as her fifth child, Sherrie L. Tilghman (Charles Jr.) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren, as well as many others who considered her as a mom. Francenne Marie Cooper peacefully departed this life on December 25, 2018, at the Resorts at Chester River Manor in Chestertown, MD. She fought a tough fight and now has gone to rest. We all loved her hard, but God loved her best. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2018, at 12 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, MD, where relatives and friends may visit two hours prior (10 a.m.-12 p.m.). Interment will be in Asbury U.M. Church Cemetery, following the service.
