Everett A. Landin

Dr. Everett A. Landin of Easton, MD passed away on Tuesday, April 22 after a long illness. He was 84 years old. He was born on June 2, 1918 in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, the eldest son of Arthur and Alice Landin. His parents instilled in him the love and appreciation of all that he held dear: family, education, music, gardening, woodworking and faith. Dr. Landin received a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Education from Alfred University. He earned a Doctor of Education from Pennsylvania State University, and completed post-doctoral work in curriculum development at Columbia University. In 1942 he began his first teaching position as an elementary school teacher in the Northern Area Joint School System in Warren County, Pennsylvania. Over the next twenty years, he also served as an elementary principal, high school teacher, guidance counselor, high school principal, and finally as the Supervising Principal for the district. He also served as Superintendent of Schools for Easton and Redding, Connecticut. For over a decade, he served as a Professor of Education and Director of the Educational Development Center at West Chester University. He was an active member and officer of many professional education organizations. Dr. Landin traveled extensively to observe international educational programs. He was an avid student of The Bible, and an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester, where he was a Sunday school teacher and a past president of the Church Council. Dr. Landin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lillian; his children Kristy Flathmann of Kennett Square, Dr. Peter Landin of Easton, Maryland, and Julie Hopkins of Dripping Springs, Texas; a granddaughter; two grandsons; and his brothers Donald Landin and Dr. Melburn Landin of Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. He was prededed in death by his brother, Harold Landin. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church, Sugar Grove, PA, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Mission Covenant Church Cemetery, Sugar Grove, PA. Contributions in his memory may be made to Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church, PO Box 300, Sugar Grove, PA 16350.
