Evelyn H. Kaufman-Speck

Evelyn H. Kaufman-Speck of Centreville, MD died at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center, Centreville, MD on Thursday, May 21, 2009. She was 92. Born March 24, 1917 in Easton, MD, she was the daughter of the late J. Thomas and Madge Amelia Collison Harrington. She was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1934 and in 1937 she married Herbert O. Kaufman, who served on the Centreville Town Council. Mr. Kaufman died in 1982. In 1997 she married Frederick E. Speck, Jr. and Mr. Speck died in 2003. She was a member of the Centreville United Methodist Church; Junior Women’s Club of Centreville; she was a founding Board Member of Hospice of Queen Anne’s; Double X Club, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Queen Anne’s Retired Teachers Association; Board of Election Supervisors- Queen Anne’s County; AARP of Queen Anne’s County and had been employed as a Library Assistant for Queen Anne’s County Public Schools from 1964 to retirement in 1987. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a great homemaker and crafts person. Mrs. Kaufman-Speck is survived by two daughters, Constance K. Blades and her husband, Robert E. Blades of Easton and Patti K. Willis and her husband, Craig S. Willis of St. Michaels; two step-daughters, Sonia S. Taylor of Church Hill and Cheeri S. Ford of Florida; a brother, James P. Harrington of Preston, MD; two sisters, Julia H. Clark of Chestertown and Louise H. Harrison of Norman OK; four grandchildren, Amy Blades Steward and her husband, Eric of Easton, C. Craig Blades and his wife, Candace of Richmond, VA, Katherine A. Willis of St. Michaels and Brian C. Willis and his wife, Kyla of Sherwood; five great grandchildren, Andrew G. Dorbin and Conner S. Dorbin, both of Easton, William H. Blades and Caroline U. Blades, both of Richmond and Ava N. Willis of Sherwood and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a brother, John Edward Harrington and two sisters, Ruth H. Gsell and Bette H. Whitler. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the Centreville United Methodist Church, Centreville MD at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., Centreville, MD on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 6 – 8 PM. Burial at the Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville, MD. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Queen Anne’s Inc., 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617 or the Centreville United Methodist Church, 608 Church Hill Road, Centreville, MD 21617.
