Erin Patricia Higgins

The Higgins family is saddened to say that on February 6, Erin Patricia Higgins (formerly Erin Patricia O’Brien) passed away. Her passing came as a shock to her family as she had such an active lifestyle, even towards the end. She always made time for her husband, three children, and her three grandchildren while maintaining her hobbies of gardening, cooking, reading, and spending time with her dogs. She was 59 years old and died on her 35th wedding anniversary. She was born on a small island off the coast of North America, Manhattan, to James and Georgia O’Brien. They would spend summers on the Eastern Shore. She would read books on their sailboat as her father would sip a scotch. Erin’s capacity for love knew no bounds, even as a child she took care of a large litter of cats providing them with a loving home. Later on, she went to Marietta College and St. Elizabeth’s College where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Health and Nutrition. It was there that she met the love of her life and the only man she could see spending her life with. Though she had been proposed to by more than her share of suitors, she believed firmly that Kurt was the best of them and the one for her. They were married February 6, 1988. Together they would have three children who are a reflection of the kind and nurturing woman that she was; three wonderful grandchildren for which we are reminded that only the best mothers are promoted to grandmother; two beloved loyal dogs; and two sweet cats. She was an essential part of all our lives, and she will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her loving husband, Kurt Higgins; sons, Kenny and Colin Higgins; son-in-law, Richie Lenske; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Higgins (formerly Weber); and her favorite daughter, Samantha Lenske (formerly Higgins). The lights of her life were her grandchildren, Cassidy Lenske, Gillean Lenske, Sean Higgins; grand-dog Miles; and her pets, Bailey, Molly, Tang, and Scarlet. A service will be held on Tuesday, February 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Mission Church in St. Michaels, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Erin’s memory to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or Deirdre’s House.
