Elizabeth Viola Newman

Elizabeth Viola Newman was born in Centreville, Maryland May 23, 1940. She was the daughter of the late William Scott and Lillie Mae Scott. She departed this life on Monday July 6, 2020 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis Maryland. Elizabeth graduated from Kennard High School in 1958. She met and married her soul mate David Howell Newman Sr. 1958. Mother Newman was a devoted member of Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church under the leadership of Elder Minnie Hackett, Elder Anna R. Taylor, Elder Lenwood E. Taylor, and Elder Deborah Lewis. When she would share her testimony, she would always say “Who wouldn’t serve a God like that”. Mother Newman served as Sunday school teacher, Deaconess, choir member, cook, church mother and various other jobs at church. Mother Newman and Deacon Newman were well known for their potato salad and homemade apple sauce for Women’s Day Men’s Day along with various other events at church. Mother Newman loved the Lord with all her heart. Mother Newman had an impressive work ethic. She was employed by Genesis Eldercare for over 41 years working from 11 pm – 7 am shift. Mother Newman loved her job taking care of the residents at the nursing home. Her career at Corsica Hills Nursing Home in Centreville, MD then moved she moved to The House in the Pines in Easton Maryland only to end up back at Corsica Hills in Centreville. Mother Newman is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Denise Newman and her son Clifford Allen Newman, her sister Henrietta Pinckney, brother in law James Phillip Newman, three grandchildren Matthew Allen Newman, Lauren Elizabeth Newman and Ian David Newman, two great grandchildren Gabriella and Ivy Newman, her God children Danielle Miles and Brian Taylor, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her special friends Elder Agnes Claggett and Eva Green. Mother Newman and Eva Green were riding partners for their standing hair appointment at Aretha’s. Mother Newman was preceded in death by her husband David Howell Newman Sr., her sons Michael Darrell Newman, David Howell Newman Jr., her siblings William Scott, Charles Scott, James Scott, Lillie Mae Sewell, and Pauline Rozier. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 6-8 pm and on Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 9 am-10 am at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD, where a service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10 am. Burial will follow in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.
