Elizabeth Charlotte Knop

Elizabeth Charlotte Knop of Grasonville, MD went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Betty, as she was called by friends and family was born on May 15, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Karl Bestmann and Charlotte Titzi. She was a graduate of Denby High School Class of 1945. After graduation she worked in the Milinary Department at Winkleman’s Department Store and also at her father’s Tailor Shop. She married Thomas Fredrick Knop on October 11, 1947. Betty was an active member of her church. She attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Detroit, Michigan; Christ the King Lutheran Church, Grosse Pte, Michigan; and is a current member of Galilee Lutheran Church, Chester, Maryland. She loved singing in the choir and performing solos. She attended Sunday School both as a teacher and a student. She was a fervent prayer warrior. Betty returned to work after her babies started school. She was an Executive Secretary for Mr. Hudson of The J.L. Hudson Department Store, Detroit. She then went to The Sandy Corporation and J.C. Murray Associates as an Executive Secretary. She was a member of the American Businesswomen’s Association, where she served as Secretary and President. After retirement, she became a watercolor and acrylic painter. Betty was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her own clothes, her daughter’s clothes, as well as doll clothes. In 2010, Betty and Tom moved to Maryland to be near their daughter. They fulfilled a lifelong dream to live on the water. They spent their remaining years in their dream home overlooking the beautiful Eastern Bay. Betty is survived by a daughter, Kathleen C. Moldenhauer (Raymond) of Grasonville, Maryland; son, Karl M. Knop (Barbara) of Allen Park, Michigan; sister, Clara Graham of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan; and her Grandchildren: Keven Moldenhauer, Heidi Rayner, Eric Knop and Tracey Weborg; and Great Grandchildren: Sadie, Parker, Alyssa, Lily, Connor, Sawyer, Molly, Andrew, Emma, and Aaron. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Thomas F. Knop (2013). A private Graveside Family Service will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, Maryland. A Memorial Service will be held at Wye Bible Church, Grasonville, Maryland on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
