Elizabeth Didier

Elizabeth “Betsy” Voelker Didier of Grasonville, MD died Friday March 28, 2008 after a 3 year battle with cancer at home surrounded by her beloved family. She was 73. Born on September 1, 1934 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Joseph G. Voelker and Margaret Wilkens. After raising her family Betsy graduated from the Community College of Baltimore with an Associates Degree. She would later receive her B.A. from Loyola College and follow up with her Masters Degree in Education also from Loyola College. Betsy taught for schools starting at St. Dominic’s in Baltimore, Anne Arundel County, Queen Anne’s County and Chesapeake College. She married Kenneth B. Didier in 1972 and in 1989 they would move to Grasonville, MD. Throughout the years Betsy was active with her church at St. Anthony’s in Baltimore, MD and St. Christopher’s in Chester, MD where she taught Sunday school and was very active with various ministries. She also was a volunteer at the Red Cross teaching sign language, enjoyed crafts such as crocheting and knitting, gardening and will be remembered for her artistic abilities. She is survived by her husband Kenneth B. Didier of Grasonville, MD daughter; Stephanie F. McDermott and her husband Bernie of Baltimore, MD son; Mathew J. Zeller and his wife Lori of Abington, MD son; Richard A. Zeller and his wife Susie of Forest Hill, MD daughter; Patricia A. Poe and her husband Ron of Baltimore, MD son; Robert M. Zeller and his wife Sandy of Fawn Grove, PA daughter; Susan E. Schott of Towson, MD son; Wayne Canapp and his wife Jen of Pasadena, MD and daughter; Jessica Canapp of Baltimore, MD a sister; Jeanne E., Shanahan of Baltimore, MD; a brother; Bernard A. Voelker of Towson, MD; and 14 grandchildren. Two brothers Joseph G. Voelker, Jr and John Thomas Voelker both predeceased her. A funeral mass will be held 11AM on Tuesday April 1, 2008 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Queenstown, MD. Family and friends may call on Monday March 31, 2008 at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A. at 106 Shamrock Road Chester, MD from 2Pm to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Baltimore, MD on April 5, 2008 at 10AM.
