Elizabeth Ann Appler

Elizabeth (Dee) Ann Appler passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2015, at Talbot Hospice House in Easton, MD. Dee was born on August 28, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Benson and Anna Peltzer. She graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore and worked for J.T. Roberts Wholesale Plumbing Company. She became a stay-at-home mom after the first of her two children were born. She, her husband, and children moved to Easton in 1972. She was active as a Girl Scout Leader in the Junior, Cadette, and Senior programs for many years in Towson, Perry Hall, and Easton. During this time, she was involved in many long distance biking and backpacking trips with her Troops. In 1974, she was asked to be the Administrator of St. Mark’s Village and was dedicated to this position for 25 years, overseeing its success and the additional expansions bringing the total residences to 93. After retiring, she worked five summers at Henson Scout Reservation as the Trading Post Manager and was a member of the Campmasters, the weekend volunteer Boy Scout supporters at the camp, until her failing health prevented her from being active. She was a devoted wife of Raymond Rodney Appler for more than 59 years. Dee is survived by her husband, Ray; daughter, Karen Denise Sturtevant and her husband Richard; a son, Herbert Reese Appler; and three adult grandchildren, Jeffrey Sturtevant and his wife Stephanie, Thomas Sturtevant and his wife Victoria, and Amy Sturtevant and her fiancé Robert Forrester; and great-grandson, Samuel Sturtevant. Dee is survived by a brother Carman Lee Peltzer and his wife Kay; brother-in-law David Appler and his wife Pamela; and sisters-in-law, Betty Jane Peltzer and Kitty Seablom. Her other brother, Benson Peltzer, and sister, LeEsta Peltzer, predeceased her. She had numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Rd., Easton, MD 21601.
