Edward Franklin Severa Jr.

Edward Franklin Severa, Jr. “Bunk” of Queenstown, MD died at his home on the Wye River on November 18th, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Chester on May 26th, 1933, the son of the late Edward F. and Charlotte Livingston Severa. He attended Stevensville High School and later the Charlotte Hall Military Academy, where he graduated with honors in 1951. After graduation he worked as paymaster during the construction of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. On February 28th, 1953, he married Shirley Thurston of Charlottesville, VA. Shortly thereafter, was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years and was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of Sergeant. After working in real estate for several years, he established Wye River Ent., Inc., a real estate brokerage and development company. He will be most remembered for his great love of nature and the outdoors, and his conservation efforts on Kent Island. He was a member of Bay Country Moose Lodge #831, Kent Island American Legion Post 0278, Kent Island Heritage Society and the Kent Island United Methodist Church Mr. Severa is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley; his son, Edward III and wife Pam and daughter Nannette. A daughter, Rebecca Leigh, predeceased him in 1967. Also surviving him are three grandchildren, Edward IV "Seth", Christopher and Kristina Severa; a sister, Linda Collier and husband Butch; a niece, Melinda Sewell and husband Jamie; a nephew, Adam Britt and wife Kimberly and two great nephews, Zachary and Cameron Sewell. Pall bearers shall be Guinea Legg, Lummy Thompson, Marion Leaverton, Bill Lins, Chuck Livingston, Billy Hoxter, Marvin Wheeler and Dickie LaBrie. Funeral services will be held in the Kent Island United Methodist Church on Friday at 11AM. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 3PM to 5PM and 7PM to 9PM at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A. in Chester, MD. Interment will follow in Stevensville Cemetery, Stevensville, MD.
