Edward H. Nicholson

Edward H. Nicholson (also known as Nick or Humpty Nicholson) of Chestertown, MD, died on June 29, 2012, at Chester River Manor in Chestertown. He was 91. He was raised in Still Pond, MD, the son of the late Oliver T. and Margaret LeSage Nicholson. Mr. Nicholson was a World War II veteran serving as a U.S. Marine from 1943-1946. He participated in action in Okinawa and Nagasaki serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Following an honorable discharge, he returned to Betterton, where he owned and operated Nicholson Supply and Service Company for many years. As a master plumber and electrician, he worked later with Pinder Service Company until retiring. He was married on October 12, 1940, to Mary Ann Newsome; she predeceased him on May 6, 2005. Mr. Nicholson was a proud member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post #36 in Chestertown and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed photography, traveling, hunting, target shooting, dancing, woodworking, and could build or fix most anything. His passions include raising beagles and farming, but most of all his true legacy is his large family. He is survived by his son, Lewis E. Nicholson and his fiancé Lynn McLain of Worton, MD; two daughters, Joyce Nicholson of Worton and Virginia L. Priddy and her husband Thomas of Betterton, MD; a sister, Margaret Ann Nicholson Robinson of FL; grandchildren, Jennifer Nicholson Holden and her husband Marty, Christopher E. Nicholson and his wife Kim, and Amy Priddy Gowran and her husband Will; along with great-grandchildren, Alexanderia Libourel, Grace E. Libourel, Bryan T. Libourel, William Gowran, Jr., and Arianna Gowran. He was also predeceased by his brother, John Thomas “Bud” Nicholson and a granddaughter, Robin Priddy Libourel. Services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, in Chestertown where relatives and friends may call from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Still Pond Cemetery aside his devoted wife. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post #36, P.O. Box 322, Chestertown, MD 21620 or the Kent County Humane Society, P.O. Box 352, Chestertown, MD 21620.
