Edward George Alexander Henry

Edward G.A. Henry passed away on January 19, 2023, in Easton, MD. He was 80. Born in Baltimore on October 10, 1942, Edward was the eldest son of Edward G. and Sylvia B. Henry. He was a 1960 graduate of Catonsville High School. A lover of the outdoors, Edward could be found hunting, riding motorcycles as a Boumi Temple Shriner, and playing baseball in his younger years. Although athletically accomplished, he turned down recruitment efforts by the Baltimore Orioles. After moving to Bozman in 1976 with his wife, Nancy, Edward became a Talbot County legend. Prior to this, Edward had followed family tradition and worked for Canton Railroad Co. for 13 years, but he found community policing to be his calling. He served Talbot County as a Sheriff’s deputy for 25 years ending his career with six years as St. Michaels Police Chief. As a police officer, Edward was well-known for his work ethic, sensitivity, and effectiveness. Over the years, Edward became a leader and part of the fabric that is Talbot County. His interest in sports led him to join baseball and softball teams, then bowling teams, and finally competitive shooting teams. He loved it all and found himself instructing and mentoring others. Edward participated in many volunteer activities and “side jobs.” He was a Life Sponsor of Ducks Unlimited acting as Chairman of the Bay Hundred chapter and as MD State Chairman. He was a field representative for a local company making championship goose calls and instructed many children and adults in their use. He was a hunting guide. He was a farm manager. He was a firearms instructor. He was a longtime hunter safety instructor. He worked as an assistant to a local funeral director. Edward found himself answering the call of anyone asking for help. As a result, many people have unique “Ed Henry stories” to tell. Edward is survived by Nancy, his wife of 48 years; brothers, Craig (Deborah) and Kim of Mississippi and their families; several special cousins; and his loyal friend, Michael Haddaway. Services will be held at the Easton Fire Dept. on February 2, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m. followed by internment in the columbarium of Christ Church in St. Michaels.
