Edward Martin Berkman

Edward M. Berkman, 82, of Grasonville, MD., passed away December 21, 2023 at the Arcadia Assisted Living Home in Denton, MD. Ed was born May 7, 1941, in Manhattan, N.Y. He was the son of the late Murray & Miriam (Smith) Berkman. He is also predeceased by his brother Alan Berkman & his stepmother Fay Berkman. Surviving family are his brother, Bruce (Elaine) Berkman & sister, Evelyn (Marvin) Moster of New York City. Edward's professional career was a Sales & Marketing Representative in the Medical Imaging Field on the East coast, but primarily Baltimore, Washington, D.C. & Virginia. He enjoyed playing golf, boating, fishing & he especially liked teaching his grandchildren how to fish & crab off his pier on the Chester River. He also enjoyed working outdoors & was a Master Gardener. Traveling in the U.S. & Europe, on land & on cruise ships was a favorite of his. He is also survived by the love of his life for 48 yrs., Barbara Ryan Berkman, his children, Ilene Susan Mills, Michael Stuart Berkman (Jeannien), Miriam Sandra Berkman Crowley (Chris), Michael Seth Berkman, Matthew David Berkman (Lisa), Heather Aleece Berkman & 10 grandchildren. In 1997, Ed became an active member of the Masons. He served as Past Master of Centreville Lodge #180, 2009, he served as Worshipful Junior Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of Maryland, member of Scottish Rite, member of Boumi Temple in Baltimore, Past President of Chester River Shrine Club & also a member of the Shepherds Club, where he earned the distinction of having transported over 100 children to Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia. He was Past Patron of Centreville Chapter #69 OES & in 2010 was appointed by the Grand Lodge of Maryland to serve as a Grand Inspector. Ed will be remembered for his love of his family, his quick wit & sense of humor on Thurs., Dec. 28, 2023, a visitation will be from 2-4pm, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam, 106 Shamrock Rd., Chester, MD 21619, Masonic Service will be at 3:30pm. Interment will be Fri., Dec. 29, 2023, at Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, New Jersey 08619 at 12 noon.
