Edith B. Hardcastle

Edith B. Hardcastle, of Easton, died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD on Saturday, June 14, 2003. She was 85. Born in Annapolis, MD, October 29, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Rear Admiral John Reginald Beardall, USN and Edith J. McCormick Beardall. She attended various schools in Panama, Switzerland and England, graduating from The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA, in 1934. On December 28, 1938, she married Yellott Fitzhugh Hardcastle, Jr. They made their home in Mt Vernon, NY, Grosse Ile, MI. numerous duty stations in the U. S. while Mr. Hardcastle was serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II and Broomall, PA. In 1947, they moved to Groton, MA where he taught at Groton School. Following his retirement in 1979, they moved to Talbot County where he died August 28, 2000. A member of Christ Church, Easton, where she served on the Altar Guild, she was also a member of All Faiths Chapel in Tunis Mills, the Garden Club of the Eastern Shore, the Talbot Hospice Foundation where she was a volunteer, the Harbor Club, the National Society of Colonial Dames and The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. A resident of Londonderry, Easton, since 1996, she was President of the Londonderry Board of Directors at the time of her death. A woman of deep faith who was devoted to her family, she enjoyed gardening, reading, arts and classical music and maintaining her language skills in French and Ancient Greek. Mrs. Hardcastle is survived by two daughters, Helen H. Gates of Brookline, MA and Edith H. Vaughan of Marion, MA; two sons, Y. Fitzhugh Hardcastle III of Bloomfield, CT and Edmund B. Hardcastle of Easton, MD; a brother, Geoffrey B. Beardall of Winter Park, FL; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Christ Church, Easton, on Tuesday, June 17th at 11 A. M .Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton. Memorial donations may be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601; Christ Church Endowment Fund, 111 S. Harrison St., Easton, MD or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton.
