Dorothy Marie Jordan

Dorothy Marie Jordan of Centreville, MD died on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at her daughter’s residence. She was 85 years old. Born on May 30, 1923 to the late Henry Knauss and Ernestine Kissler, Mrs. Jordan attended Southern High School in Baltimore, MD. She worked at a sewing factory for 2 years before meeting and marrying Raymond William Jordan, Sr. on July 3, 1941. They raised their family in Cape St. Claire before buying a farm and moving to the Eastern Shore in 1974. She worked for Nationwide Insurance and was a hostess at the Annapolis Yacht Club for over 5 years. She was active with the Ladies Auxiliary at both Marley Park and Cape St. Claire Fire Departments where her husband was Fire Chief for 35 years. Her hobbies included restoring old houses, especially the original Homestead on Cape St. Claire and the Presbyterian Manse in Port Deposit. She loved to sew making Christmas stockings for the children of Port Deposit. She also loved animals, especially cats and did many fundraisers for animals and children. She and her husband traveled to Canada, Mexico and throughout the USA. They were members of the Crab Towners of Annapolis which is an RV camping club. She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Marie Adams and her husband, Henry, and Hanah May Williams all of Centreville, MD; ten grandchildren, Dorothy Marie Young, Henry Adams V, Todd Adams, Kimberly Cruz, Raymond Jordan III, Jeanie Van Dyke, Leslie Jordan, Raymond Williams, Timothy Williams, and Christopher Williams; two sisters, Margaret Smith and Mary Knauss both of Glen Burnie, MD; a brother, John Knauss of Glen Burnie; and 18 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Raymond William Jordan, Sr.; a son, Raymond William Jordan, Jr. and a son-in-law, Raymond Williams. Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 8, 2009 for 6 to 8 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 408 South Liberty Street, Centreville, MD. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, One St. Jude Place Building, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552
